There are many pet owners who love their pets to pieces. While they would love for them to roam around freely, this is not always allowed, especially when you are living in a neighborhood. Some pet owners have chosen underground fences to do the job for them, while there are several others who opted for more traditional means of containment. Many folks consider underground fencing to be inhumane way of restricting the movement of your pet. This is more so because your pets need a while to know what it is that is affecting them when they cross a perimeter.

Underground fencing has been around for a good part of 20 years now. They have, with time generated a sense of reliability that surrounds them. The mechanations of underground fencing is simple. A narrow trench is dug right around your house. In this trench a wire is placed. This wire is then connected to a transmitter that emits sine waves that are received by a collar around your pet’s neck. If your pet crosses or so much as approaches the perimeter, the collar emits out a mild noise to scare him off. If he does continue ploughing ahead, he risks getting a mild shock. Some amount of training is necessary for your pet to stick to his limits.

In terms of advantages, underground fences are not as unsightly as wooden or steel cages. They allow your pet to prance around your home but within certain limits. The disadvantages of underground fencing are that it cannot tell animal or man apart and you or a visitor a bound to receive a shock if you are not too careful. You have to keep an eye on children as well. What’s more is that bigger dogs soon learn to outsmart the system and can jump high enough over it or will soon develop an immunity to the shock emitted.
